Country Firewall: Block Countries in a Telegram Group

Block people from the countries you choose in your Telegram group with Security's Country firewall: how it reads the country, Ban or Kick, what blocked people see.

Open Doublegram Security

The Country firewall lets Doublegram Security block countries in your Telegram group: people connecting from the countries you choose are stopped before they can write. It reads the country when someone opens the verification page, so it works only with join verification on. It's part of Doublegram Premium: see Security Premium for your group.

How it works

Whoever joins stays muted until they pass the verification (see How Security checks new members). When they open the verification page, the firewall reads the country of their connection and compares it with your list. If the country is blocked, the verification fails and the person is banned or removed. Security keeps only the country code, never the IP address.

  • Blocklist, the default: everyone gets in, except the countries you choose.
  • Allowlist: only the countries you choose get in. See Country allowlist.

With an empty list nobody is blocked. With the Blocklist, someone whose country can't be read gets through.

Block countries in your group

  1. In the group, send /settings and open 🚪 Member entry.
  2. Tap 🌍 Country firewall. Or send /firewall in the group: it opens the same screen, with a Close button at the bottom.
  3. Tap 🔴 Country firewall to turn it on.
  4. Tap the countries to block. They're in alphabetical order, 10 per page: move with ⬅️ Prev and Next ➡️. Each tap is saved at once, and a ✅ marks the countries chosen.
  5. Check the two buttons under the list, Mode: ⚫ Blocklist and Action: 🔨 Ban. Tap one to switch it.

The screen sums it up, for example 🟢 On · countries selected: 3. The button shows in 🚪 Member entry only while verification is on. Admins can change the firewall, or only the owner if they chose so in 🔐 Who can change settings.

Ban or Kick

  • Action: 🔨 Ban, the default: the person is banned and can't come back until an admin lifts the ban.
  • Action: 🦶 Kick: the person is removed and can try again. From the same country, they're stopped again.

In a group that approves join requests, the request is declined instead, and with Ban the person is banned too.

What a blocked person sees

The verification page shows Verification failed and Write to an admin of the group. It never says that the country is the reason: that would only help people get around it. If someone writes to you, keep in mind the firewall stops them again for as long as their country is blocked.

The alert to admins

Every block sends the admins 🔔 Blocked by the country firewall, with the person's Telegram ID and the two-letter code of the country. It goes where your alerts go: see Admin alerts. To stop only this one, open 🚪 Member entry → 🔔 Admin alerts and turn off Blocked by the country firewall.

What the firewall can't see

  • Verification off: no page, no country. The screen warns you: ⚠️ Join verification is off, so the firewall can't work: the country is read on the verification page.
  • Network Trust: someone already verified in other groups can get in without opening the page, so their country isn't read. To check everyone, turn Network Trust off. See Network Trust.
  • Members already in: the firewall checks people when they verify, not those who are already in the group.
  • VPNs: the country is the one of the connection. Behind a VPN, it's the country of the VPN.
