Verification Time Limit: What Happens to Members Who Don't Verify
How long new members have to pass Security's verification in your Telegram group, the four choices for those who miss it, and what each person sees afterwards.
Open Doublegram SecurityNew members have 5 minutes to pass Doublegram Security's verification, unless the admins set another time limit between 1 and 60 minutes. Members who don't verify in time are removed: they can come back right away, after 1 hour, after 1 day, or never, as the admins decide. Both settings are free.
Set the time limit
- Send
/settingsin the group and open 🚪 Member entry. - Tap ⏱ Timeout: 5 min.
- Use − and +, or a quick choice: 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes.
- Tap ✅ Save. ✖️ Cancel leaves everything as it was.
The new limit applies to people who join from then on. It covers the whole verification, rules, quiz and questions included. If the group has any of them and the limit is under 3 minutes, the menu warns: ⚠️ Reading and answering takes a couple of minutes, and the time to verify is 2 min: slow people get removed before they finish.
Choose what happens: Missed check
In 🚪 Member entry, tap 🚫 Missed check:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Removed, retry right away (default) | Taken out of the group. They can join again shortly after and retry. |
| Removed, retry after 1 hour | Taken out, and Telegram keeps them out for 1 hour. |
| Removed, retry after 1 day | Taken out, and they can come back after 1 day. |
| Banned | Out for good: only an admin can let them back. |
A wrong quiz answer counts the same as a missed check. Security looks for expired verifications regularly, so the removal can come a little after the time is up.
What the person sees
The verification message already tells them the deal, for example ⏱ You have 5 min. If you miss it you're taken out of the group, and you can come back and try again in 1 hour. With Banned it says If you miss it you're removed from the group. When the time is up:
- In the group: the message becomes 🚫 Anna did not pass the verification in time and has been removed. If Security's messages are shown only to the person concerned, it's deleted instead. See Welcome and join messages.
- On the page: Time is up, with a countdown to when they can join again, or, if banned, The group's admins don't let back in whoever doesn't verify in time. If it's a mistake, write to an admin.
- In private: ⌛️ Time is up or 🚫 Blocked, only if they've started the bot before: Telegram doesn't let bots write to people first.
Groups with join requests
If the group approves new members, nobody gets removed: when the time runs out the request is declined, and the person can ask again whenever they like. That's why 🚫 Missed check doesn't show up there, and the time screen says This group approves joins, so nobody gets removed: the request is declined instead. See Telegram join requests.
Alerts to the admins
Security can tell the admins who didn't make it: 🔔 Member removed, or 🔔 Join request declined in groups with requests. If the person passed the check but didn't finish rules, quiz or questions, the alert says so. Where alerts arrive and which ones you get is set in 🚪 Member entry → 🔔 Admin alerts, part of Doublegram Premium. See Admin alerts.
When the check fails for another reason
Two Premium defenses can stop someone during the check: the Country firewall and Antiraid's block on many accounts from the same connection. The person reads Verification failed, with no reason given, and is taken out of the group whatever 🚫 Missed check says. A Country firewall set to Ban bans them. See Country firewall.
Let someone back in early
Removed and banned people are on the group's list of removed users in Telegram: group info → Edit → Permissions → Removed Users. Take them off the list and they can join again right away. The menu names change a little between Telegram apps.
