Country Allowlist: Let Only Some Countries Into Your Group
Use the Allowlist, the whitelist mode of Security's Country firewall, to let only chosen countries into your Telegram group: setup, when it fits, and the risks.
Open Doublegram SecurityThe Allowlist is the whitelist mode of Doublegram Security's Country firewall: only people connecting from the countries you choose can get into your Telegram group, and everyone else is stopped at the verification. It's the opposite of the Blocklist, and much stricter. The Country firewall is part of Doublegram Premium: see Security Premium for your group.
Allowlist or Blocklist
| Country of the connection | Blocklist | Allowlist |
|---|---|---|
| On your list | Blocked | Gets in |
| Not on your list | Gets in | Blocked |
| Can't be read | Gets in | Blocked |
With an empty list nobody is blocked in either mode: the Allowlist starts working with the first country you add.
Set up the Allowlist
- In the group, send
/settings→ 🚪 Member entry → 🌍 Country firewall, or send/firewall. - Tap 🔴 Country firewall to turn it on.
- Tap Mode: ⚫ Blocklist: it becomes Mode: ⚪ Allowlist.
- Tap the countries to let in, so that each one has a ✅. They're in alphabetical order, 10 per page, with ⬅️ Prev and Next ➡️.
- Choose what happens to everyone else: Action: 🔨 Ban or Action: 🦶 Kick.
When the Allowlist fits
- A local group: a city, a neighborhood, a club, a business that serves one country.
- A group in one language whose members live in a few countries.
- A group that keeps getting fake accounts from many different countries, where a Blocklist would never end.
To keep out just one or two countries, the Blocklist is simpler and safer: see Country firewall.
What can go wrong
- People abroad: the country is the one people connect from, not where they come from. A member on a trip is stopped.
- VPNs: behind a VPN, the country is the VPN's. A real member using one can be stopped, and someone far away can get in with a VPN set to an allowed country.
- Unknown countries: when the country of a connection can't be read, the Allowlist blocks it.
- A ban stays: with Action: 🔨 Ban, whoever is stopped by mistake stays banned until an admin lifts the ban. While you try a new list, Action: 🦶 Kick is gentler: the person is removed and can try again.
Blocked people only see Verification failed and Write to an admin of the group. Each block sends the admins 🔔 Blocked by the country firewall with the country code: watch the first ones to see who your list keeps out. If the group is only for some countries, say it in the rules: see Telegram group rules.
What the Allowlist doesn't cover
The country is read on the verification page, so verification has to be on. Members already in the group aren't checked again, and people let in by Network Trust without a new check never open the page.
