How to Ban Words in a Telegram Group
Ban words and phrases in your Telegram group with Doublegram Security: add up to 100 entries, choose what happens to whoever writes them, and avoid false hits.
Open Doublegram SecurityTo ban words in a Telegram group, turn on Banned words in Doublegram Security. Every message that contains one of your words or phrases is removed, and its author is muted, warned or banned, as you choose. The list holds up to 100 entries. Banned words is part of Doublegram Premium: see Security Premium for your group.
Turn it on and add words
- In the group, send
/settings. - Tap 💬 Message control, then Banned words.
- Tap 🔴 Banned words filter: the dot turns 🟢.
- Tap ➕ Add words.
- Within 5 minutes, send one message in the group with one word or phrase per line.
Security answers with the count, for example ✅ Added 3 entries. Total in list: 3. Commands aren't taken as words. Past 100 entries it says ⚠️ List limit reached (100 entries). Some lines were not added.
Your message with the list stays in the group. Delete it yourself if you don't want members to read it.
How words are matched
- Part of a word counts. The entry spam also catches spammer. Be careful with short entries: ass also catches class and password.
- Upper and lower case don't matter. Crypto and CRYPTO are the same entry.
- Phrases work: the words must appear together, in that order.
- Text and captions are checked. Polls, voice messages and images aren't.
- No wildcards and no variants. Accents count as different letters (café and cafe are two entries), and so do tricks like fr33. Add each spelling you need.
Spammers also write words with look-alike letters from other alphabets, such as a Cyrillic е in place of a Latin e. Disguised letters in Alphabets catches those: see Block alphabets and names.
With Edited messages on (the default), adding a banned word by editing an older message is caught too.
Remove words or clear the list
- ➖ Remove word: within 5 minutes, send one entry as it is in the list. Upper and lower case don't matter. Security answers ✅ Removed spam. Remaining: 2., or that the entry is not in the list.
- 🗑 Clear list, then 🗑 Yes, clear all: every entry is removed and the filter stays on.
- ↩️ Cancel stops the wait if you change your mind.
The screen shows how many entries the list has, not the entries themselves.
What happens to whoever writes one
- Action: Mute (default, for 1 hour), Warn or Ban. Tap it to switch. With Mute, ⏱ Muted for goes from 1 minute to 7 days, or Until an admin unmutes them.
- Delete their messages: on by default.
- 💬 Notice to the person: by default the author alone sees 🚫 Your message was removed: it contained a word that is not allowed here.
- 🔔 Admin alerts: admins get 🔔 Banned word detected with the entry that matched. See Admin alerts.
With Warn, by default 3 warnings lead to a 1-hour mute, and each one expires after 90 days. See Moderation commands.
Admins can write any word. Everyone else is checked, long-time members too. If a message also breaks another filter, such as Antispam, only the heaviest punishment applies. For links and adverts, see How to stop spam in your group.
