Telegram Group Rules: Examples and How to Make New Members Accept Them
Ten Telegram group rules you can copy, how to pin them in the chat, and how Doublegram Security makes every new member accept them before they can write.
Open Doublegram SecurityGood Telegram group rules are short, concrete and easy to find. Below are ten example rules to copy and adapt, then two ways to show them: pinned in the chat, and inside Doublegram Security's verification, where every new member accepts them before they can write. Rules in the verification are free.
Example rules to copy
- Be respectful. No insults, harassment, hate speech or threats.
- Stay on topic. Take side conversations to private messages.
- No spam or advertising: no promotions, referral links or invites to other groups without an admin's OK.
- Don't message members in private without asking first. Report anyone who sends you offers or investment deals.
- No adult, violent or shocking content.
- Write in English, so everyone can follow.
- Don't flood the chat: one message instead of ten, and no long strings of stickers or GIFs.
- No scams, fake giveaways or requests for money, passwords or login codes. Admins never ask for them.
- Respect privacy: don't share other people's personal details, photos or screenshots of private chats.
- Follow the admins' decisions. If you disagree, write to an admin in private, not in the chat.
Keep the ones that fit, add what's specific to your group, and say what happens to whoever breaks them, for example a warning first, then a mute or a ban.
Pin the rules in the chat
Send the rules as one message in the group, long-press it (right-click on desktop) and tap Pin. A short version also fits in the group's description: group info → Edit → Description. The menu names change a little between Telegram apps.
Make new members accept them
- Send
/settingsin the group → 🚪 Member entry → 📜 Rules, quiz and questions → 📜 Rules. - Tap ✏️ Write the rules.
- Within 5 minutes, send the rules in the group in one message, or forward the message where they're already written.
- Security answers ✅ Rules saved., deletes your message and turns the rules on.
The rules can be up to 4,096 characters, the length of one Telegram message. Bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, spoilers, code, quotes and links stay as they are; mentions and custom emoji become plain text. New members read them as you wrote them, in your language.
Rules in the verification turns them off and on without losing the text. ✏️ Change the rules replaces them, and 🗑 Remove the rules deletes them. The menu shows up only while verification is on.
What new members see
The verification message in the group adds 📜 After the check: the group's rules to accept. On the page, right after the check, they see Group rules with your text and one button:
- Accept and enter, when the rules are the last step;
- Accept and continue, when a quiz or questions follow;
- Accept and send to admins, when admins decide join requests.
There's no button to refuse: whoever doesn't accept stays out when the time runs out. The time to verify covers the rules too, so leave enough for reading: see Verification time limit. To see the page as they do, tap 👁 See the page.
Check who accepted
Security keeps the date each person accepted. With the moderation commands on, part of Doublegram Premium, /info in reply to a member shows 📜 Rules accepted on and the date. See Moderation commands.
To ask new members a quiz or a few questions after the rules, see Quiz and questions for new members.
