How to Make Someone an Admin in a Telegram Group
Make someone an admin in your Telegram group from the group settings or with Security's /admin command, pick their permissions, and check Recent Actions.
Open Doublegram SecurityTo make someone an admin in a Telegram group, open the group info, go to Edit → Administrators → Add Admin, choose the person and their permissions, and save. Only the owner, or an admin with the Add new admins permission, can do it. With Doublegram Security in the group, admins can also promote someone from the chat with /admin.
From the group settings
- Open the group and tap its name at the top.
- Tap Edit (the pencil on Android).
- Tap Administrators, then Add Admin.
- Choose the person from the list of members.
- Turn on the permissions they need. You can also give them a custom title.
- Save.
The menu names change a little between Telegram apps. To change an admin's permissions later, or dismiss them, open Administrators again and tap their name.
Which permissions to give
- Only what the person needs. An admin can only hand out permissions they have themselves.
- Add new admins lets them appoint other admins: keep it for people you trust fully.
- Admins are out of Security's reach: filters, Antiflood and moderation commands never touch them. Promoting someone also means Security stops checking what they write.
With /admin
/admin is one of Security's moderation commands, set up in 🔨 Moderation, which is part of Doublegram Premium (see Security Premium for your group). Turn on Commands and then /admin, which starts off. You and Security both need the Add new admins permission: what each permission does for Security is in How to add Security and make it admin.
- Reply to one of the person's messages with
/admin, or write/admin @username. - Security shows ⭐ Promote Alex with the permissions as switches: Delete messages, Restrict users, Invite users, Pin messages, Change group info, Manage video chats, Add new admins, Anonymous, Manage topics.
- Turn on what they need and tap ✅ Promote. ❌ Cancel leaves everything as it was.
Only the admin who opened the screen can use it, and at least one permission has to be on. A permission Security doesn't have shows with 🚫 and can't be given: give it to Security first. The switches start from ⭐ Default permissions in 🔨 Moderation, all off unless you change them.
Remove an admin with /unadmin
Reply to the admin with /unadmin and Security takes away all their admin permissions: ⬇️ Alex is no longer an administrator.
Telegram lets a bot demote only the admins it promoted. For anyone else Security answers 🚫 Not possible: Security didn't promote Alex. Whoever made them an admin can undo it, from the group settings.
Who made whom an admin: Recent Actions
Telegram keeps a log of what happens in the group, including new admins and changes to their permissions: open the group info, then Edit → Recent Actions. Only admins see it, and it only covers the last 48 hours. A promotion made with /admin shows there as done by Security.
With /info turned on, 📜 History on a person's card also lists the promotions and demotions made with /admin and /unadmin, with their date. See Moderation commands.
