How to Add Security to a Telegram Group and Make It Admin
Add Doublegram Security to your Telegram group, make it an admin with the right permissions, convert a basic group to a supergroup and turn on protection.
Open Doublegram SecurityTo add Doublegram Security to a Telegram group, add @doublegram_captcha_bot, make it an admin with the Ban users permission, and have one admin sign in to Doublegram, for free. The group has to be a supergroup. It takes a couple of minutes.
Add it from the bot
- Open @doublegram_captcha_bot and tap Start.
- Tap ➕ Add to a group and choose your group.
- Make it an admin: in the group's info go to Edit → Administrators → Add Admin, choose Doublegram Security, turn on Ban users and save.
➕ Add to a group doesn't ask Telegram for any permission: Security joins as a member, and you make it an admin by hand. To add an admin you have to be an admin yourself, with the right to add new admins.
You can also start from the group: open its info, tap Add members, search @doublegram_captcha_bot and add it, then make it an admin as above. The menu names change a little between Telegram apps.
The permissions it needs
- Ban users: the one that matters. Security uses it to mute whoever joins until they verify, to remove whoever doesn't, and for every punishment. Without it, Security doesn't touch new members at all.
- Delete messages: to delete what the filters stop, Telegram's "joined the group" messages, and messages with
/del. - Invite users via link: to approve join requests, and so Antiraid can close the entrances during a raid.
- Add new admins: only for
/adminand/unadmin.
The other permissions only matter for /admin: Security can only give someone a permission it has itself. In groups that approve new members, Process join requests lets the verification open by itself for whoever asks to join. See Telegram join requests.
Basic group or supergroup?
Telegram has basic groups and supergroups, and gives bots permissions like Ban users only in supergroups. In a basic group Security writes ⚠️ This group can't be protected yet and does nothing else. To convert the group:
- In the group's info tap Edit → Group type, choose Public, pick a link and save. Telegram converts the group into a supergroup right away.
- If you want it private, set Group type back to Private straight after. It stays a supergroup.
- Make Security an admin with Ban users.
Turn on protection
Security protects a group only once an admin has signed in to Doublegram with Telegram. It's free, and members never need an account. If whoever adds Security or makes it admin already has a Doublegram account, protection turns on by itself.
Otherwise Security writes 🛡 Security is in the group. To turn on protection, sign in to Doublegram with Telegram. It's free. Then, as an admin:
- Tap 🛡 Turn on protection under that message: Security's private chat opens.
- Tap 🔑 Sign in with Telegram and sign in.
- Back in the chat, Security confirms that the group is protected, with an Open the group button.
What Security writes in the group
Security keeps one notice in the group and replaces it as you go:
- ✅ The group is protected. Settings open with /settings. Everything is ready.
- 🛡 One step left. Security can't stop anyone yet: make it an admin with the Ban users permission. Protection is on, the permission is missing.
- 🛡 Security is in the group. An admin still has to sign in.
To check at any time, an admin sends /start in the group: Security answers with the group's state and a ⚙️ Settings button. From now on, whoever joins stays muted until they tap Verify me. See How Security checks new members.
Removing Security
Remove it like any other member, or take away its admin role: from that moment it stops checking who joins. The settings stay saved and the group stays protected, so if you add Security back and make it admin, it picks up where it left off. The group's Premium starts again from whoever adds it back: see Security Premium.
