Add Doublegram AI to Your Telegram Channel or Group

Add Doublegram AI to your Telegram channel or group so it can publish, correct, pin and remove your posts: the buttons, the permissions it needs and the check after.

Open Doublegram AI

To use Doublegram AI as your Telegram channel bot, add it to the channel or group where it should publish: tap ➕ Add to a channel or ➕ Add to a group in @DoublegramAIBot, pick the chat and confirm the permissions Telegram proposes. You keep talking to the AI in its private chat: the channel or group is where your posts go out.

Add it from the bot

  1. Open the bot and send /start. Do it before adding the bot: the check after it joins reaches only people who have already written to it.
  2. Tap ➕ Add to a channel or ➕ Add to a group. They're on the /start screen until you have a group or a channel, and in the choice of where a post goes; after that, write add the bot to my channel and the AI shows them.
  3. Telegram asks which chat, then shows the admin permissions already chosen. Confirm.
  4. A message arrives in the private chat with what the bot can do there.

To add a bot as an admin you have to be an admin yourself, with the right to add new admins. By hand: in the channel's info tap Edit → Administrators → Add Admin, search @DoublegramAIBot and switch on Post Messages. In a group, adding it as a member is enough to publish. The menu names change a little between Telegram apps.

The permissions it needs

  • Channel: admin with Post Messages, to publish, correct and remove its posts. To pin them it also needs Edit Messages of Others: in a channel, that's the permission for pinning.
  • Group: as a member it publishes, corrects and removes its own posts. As an admin with Pin Messages it also pins them and counts their reactions.

The check after it joins

Right after it joins, or when its permissions change, whoever did it gets one of these:

  • 📣 Weekend Hikers News is ready: Doublegram AI can publish, correct, remove and pin posts there.
  • 📣 Doublegram AI is in Weekend Hikers News. with a line like ✓ Publish · ✓ Correct · ✓ Remove · ✗ Pin, the exact permission to switch on and where, and As soon as something changes, a message arrives here.

It also names the other Doublegram bots in the chat, and tells you when one isn't an admin. In a group without Security it adds Doublegram Security isn't in the group: nobody checks who joins.; with Security there but not an admin, Doublegram Security is in the group but isn't an admin: it can't protect it. When the chat's statistics are off and you can read its numbers, a last line offers 📊 Switch on the statistics, so Doublegram AI sees how this chat is doing.: see Telegram channel and group statistics.

Learning the chat's style

Then the bot offers to learn how the chat writes, so posts sound like yours:

  • Read the channel, for a public channel: it looks at its latest posts, its description and its pinned message.
  • Read the group, for a group where Doublegram Scribe is: it reads the messages of the last few days that Scribe keeps.
  • Describe it in words, for a private channel or a group without Scribe: forward 5-10 typical posts, or write what the chat is about and how you write there.
  • Not now: Fine. Whenever you want, write "learn about Weekend Hikers News".

See Saved instructions, notes and chat rules.

What it does in your chats

  • It never writes in your chats except what you confirm from the private chat: posts, polls, scheduled posts, and automations, which you confirm once, when you create them.
  • It doesn't answer in groups. Where Doublegram Scribe is in a group, Doublegram AI can read the messages Scribe keeps and answer the group's admins in private: what was said today in Weekend Hikers?. For an AI that answers inside the group, there's Doublegram Scribe: see Ask Scribe in the chat.
  • Where it's an admin, it counts the reactions and replies to its own posts and, where statistics are on, who writes and when, never the text.
  • In channels where it's an admin, Telegram sends it the new posts. It keeps their text for 30 days, only to learn the style; don't learn from this channel stops it.

Your destinations

A chat is one of your destinations if you added the bot there or you're one of its admins, so other admins can publish there too, each from their own private chat with the bot. The list is in /settings → 📣 Destinations: 2 (the number of chats and webhooks you have), with ⚠️ where the bot can't publish, together with your Discord webhooks: see Send your posts to Discord.

Write check my groups: the AI lists only what's wrong across your chats, the most serious first, each with the exact fix. For example Security that isn't an admin, a growing group without Security, a chat where Doublegram AI can't publish, statistics that are off. When everything is fine, it says so in one line. It also works as an automation: every Monday check my groups, silent when all is fine. For one chat: how is Weekend Hikers set up with the bots?

Whoever removes the bot from a chat gets Doublegram AI was removed from Weekend Hikers News: it's no longer a destination.
