The Doublegram AI Telegram bot gives you access to multiple AI providers inside one private chat. Each family has different strengths — and each model costs a different number of credits per request. Picking the right one saves credits and gets you better results in Telegram.
This guide helps you choose wisely and shows exactly how to switch models with /model. Everything below works from @DoublegramAIBot in a private chat.
How to change your AI model
There are two ways to open the model picker:
- Send
/model - Or:
/start→ Settings → Models
You will first choose between two types:
- Text Model — for chatting, writing, coding, analysis, and vision (when you send images with a text question).
- Image Model — for generating pictures from a text description. This is separate from your chat model.
Then pick a provider (Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, or Grok), and finally tap the specific model. Each button shows the credit cost — for example GPT-5 (6/req) means 6 credits per successful request.
When you switch models, your current conversation is not erased. You can change model mid-chat and keep going.
Try it: Send /model → Text Model → pick a provider → tap a model → send /status to confirm your selection.
Which provider should you pick?
Think in terms of what you are doing, not model version numbers. Here is a practical guide:
Anthropic Claude — writing and deep thinking
Best when you need long, well-structured text: reports, summaries of big documents, careful reasoning, or nuanced instructions. Claude Opus and Sonnet are the most capable; Haiku is faster and cheaper for simpler tasks.
Good for: long articles, document analysis, structured emails, complex multi-step instructions.
OpenAI GPT — the all-rounder
The most versatile choice for everyday chat, coding help, translations, and general problem-solving. GPT-5 and GPT-5.2 are the strongest options; Mini and 4.1 Mini are lighter and cost fewer credits.
Good for: coding, brainstorming, everyday questions, mixed tasks where you want one model for everything.
Google Gemini — fast and factual
Strong on factual answers, quick responses, and working with images alongside text. Gemini Flash models are fast and budget-friendly; Pro models handle harder questions. New users start on Gemini 2.5 Flash by default.
Good for: quick answers, multimodal questions (text + image), everyday chat at lower cost.
xAI Grok — alternative perspective
Another capable option for general chat and real-time-style questions. Grok Fast is a good middle ground; Grok 3 is more powerful for harder tasks.
Good for: general conversation, trying a different style of response, tasks where you want an alternative to GPT or Claude.
Quick picks: Not sure? Start with GPT-5 or Claude Sonnet for general use. Need speed and low cost? Try Gemini Flash. Working on a long document? Go Claude Sonnet or Opus.
Image models (separate setting)
Generating images uses a different model from your chat model. In /model, choose Image Model instead of Text Model:
- GPT Image — OpenAI image generation (two tiers available).
- Imagen 3 — Google's image model.
Each shows its cost per image (for example 4/img). Pick the image model once, then describe what you want in a normal message — the bot generates using your selected image model.
Web search and Perplexity
When your question needs current information from the web, Doublegram AI can search automatically — you do not need to pick Perplexity manually. The bot detects when a live search would help and fetches up-to-date answers with sources.
For everyday news, prices, recent events, or anything that changes over time, just ask naturally: What happened in the markets today? or Latest news about… The bot handles the search behind the scenes.
Credits and model cost
More powerful models generally cost more credits per request. The exact cost is always shown on the model button in /model, and you can also see your current model's cost in /status.
- Haiku, Mini, Flash tiers — fewer credits, great for simple or high-volume tasks.
- Sonnet, GPT-5, Pro tiers — more credits, better for complex work.
- Opus, GPT-5.2 — top tier for the hardest tasks.
Tip: Use a cheaper model for drafts and quick questions, then switch to a stronger model only when you need polish or depth. Send /credits to check you have enough before a long session.
