Telegram Voice to Text: Transcribe Voice Messages in Your Group

With Scribe in your group, every voice message turns into text by itself, a few seconds after it's sent. Everyone in the group can read it, and nobody needs Telegram Premium.

How it works

1. Someone sends a voice message or a video message, the round one.
2. Scribe puts its reaction on it while it listens: ⚡, unless the admins chose another one.
3. The text arrives as a reply, starting with 🎙️. A long text comes in a quote: tap it to read it all.

Scribe recognizes the language of each voice message on its own, so it works in groups where people speak different languages. In groups with topics, the text stays in the same topic.

Audio files: /transcribe

Audio files, such as recordings sent as music or audio, aren't transcribed on their own. Reply to one with /transcribe and Scribe turns it into text. The same works for a voice message that wasn't transcribed, for example a short one when the admins chose only the long ones.

Regular videos and files sent as documents can't be transcribed, and neither can files over 10 MB.

Do I need Telegram Premium?

No. Telegram has its own button to turn a voice message into text, but each person taps it on each message, and unlimited use is part of Telegram Premium. Scribe transcribes every voice message once, for the whole group, and it's free: up to 30 minutes a day per group, 120 with the group's Premium. See Voice transcription limits.

Choose which voice messages

An admin sends /start in the group and goes to ⚙️ Settings → 🎙️ Transcription:

• Every voice message: the default.
• Only longer than 15, 30 or 60 seconds: the short ones stay as they are.
• Off: nothing is transcribed on its own, and /transcribe still works.

When no text arrives

• Scribe isn't an admin: Telegram doesn't let it hear the voice messages. See How to add Scribe.
• A limit was reached: Scribe says so once, then waits for the next day. See Voice transcription limits.
• No voice can be heard in this message. There's only noise or music.
• This voice message couldn't be transcribed. Try again in a moment with /transcribe: the failed attempt doesn't count toward the limits.

What happens to the text

The text is saved as the voice message's text in the group's memory, so /search and the AI can find what was said in a voice message. Replying to a transcript doesn't wake up the AI.

Voice messages sent in secret with /pm are never transcribed.
