How to Add Scribe to a Telegram Group and Make It Admin

Scribe works in groups, as an admin. It doesn't need any admin permission, just the role: Telegram doesn't show voice messages and the chat to a bot that isn't an admin.

How to add Scribe to a group

1. Open @DoublegramScribeBot and tap Start.
2. Tap ➕ Add to a group and choose your group.
3. Telegram asks you to confirm Scribe as an admin. Confirm: there's no permission to turn on.

To add an admin you have to be an admin of the group yourself, with the right to add new admins.

From the group

You can also start from the group, like with any other bot:

1. Open the group's info and tap Add members.
2. Search @DoublegramScribeBot and add it.
3. Make it an admin: in the group's info go to Edit → Administrators → Add Admin, choose Scribe and save. You can leave every permission off.

The menu names change a little between the Telegram apps.

Scribe doesn't work in channels. If your channel has a discussion group, add Scribe there.

What Scribe writes when it joins

As an admin, Scribe says hello in the group and sums up what it does. Under the message there's a row of flags to choose its language.

If it joined another way and isn't an admin, it says so: Without admin rights Telegram doesn't let Scribe see voice messages and the chat. Make it an admin from the group's settings, or tap 🔑 Make Scribe admin under its message.

The group's language

Scribe starts in the language of whoever added it, if it's English, Italian, Spanish, French or German, and in English otherwise. An admin can change it with the flags under the welcome message, or under /start. See Scribe settings.

Free or Premium from the start

If you have Doublegram Premium when you add Scribe, the group gets Premium straight away and the AI is ready. Otherwise the group starts on the free plan: transcription, /search, /pm and automatic replies work right away, and an admin can turn on Premium later. See Scribe Premium.

The /start menu

In the group, admins send /start to open Scribe's menu: one line on what Scribe does there right now, the ⚙️ Settings button and the language flags. Scribe doesn't answer /start from members: their commands are in the / menu of the chat.

Removing Scribe

Remove Scribe like any other member. The group's saved messages and notes are deleted right away and pending reminders are cancelled. The settings stay, in case you add it back. See What Scribe saves.
