Telegram User Not Found? Why Lookup Can't Find Some Accounts

Lookup only sees what Telegram makes public. Most searches find what you're looking for, but sometimes the answer is empty or partial. Here's what each answer means and what you can do. A search that finds nothing doesn't count toward your daily searches.

"@name doesn't exist on Telegram"

No account, bot, group or channel has that username right now. Usually:

• there's a typo;
• the owner changed or removed the username. A freed username can also be taken by someone else later, so an old username may now lead to a different account.

"With just the ID, Telegram doesn't let me see who it is"

Telegram only shows a person to accounts that have already come across them. Lookup knows the people who have written to it or whose messages were forwarded to it; for everyone else, the ID alone isn't enough. It's the most common empty answer.

What works: forward one of their messages, even an old one, or search their username.

"I can't read this group or channel"

You searched a group or channel by its ID or with a t.me/c/… link, and Lookup can't read it: it's private and Lookup isn't in it, or it's public but Lookup hasn't come across it yet. For a public one, send its username or t.me link. For a private one, use its invite link or forward one of its posts.

"This invite link has expired or is no longer valid"

The link was revoked, has expired or was cut off when you copied it. Ask for a new one.

Telegram privacy settings

Some details are hidden on purpose, and Lookup doesn't try to guess them:

• Forwarded messages: if someone has turned off the link to their account in forwarded messages, a forward only shows their name, as 👤 User (privacy protected). This one counts as a search, because Lookup did answer.
• Last seen: if someone hides it, you only see the rough range Telegram shows everyone, like recently. See what last seen recently means.
• Profile photo: if someone shows it only to their contacts, Lookup sees Profile photo: no.
• Bio: if someone hides it, there's no Bio line.

A public username stays searchable whatever the privacy settings: they hide details, not the account.

Searching by name or phone number

Lookup can't search by name or phone number. You need a username, an ID, a t.me link or a forwarded message.

"Lookup temporarily unavailable" or "Something went wrong"

Lookup couldn't complete the search at that moment. Try again shortly.
