Catch Telegram Admin Impersonators and Name Changes in Your Group

Lookup alerts you when someone in your Telegram group copies an admin's name or username, and when a member changes name or username.

Scammers copy the name of a group admin, then message members in private pretending to be them. Lookup notices as soon as they join or write in the group, and tells you. It can also tell you when a member changes name or username, so you don't lose track of them.

Both alerts are off by default. Turn them on from /settings in the group: you need the group's Premium, with Lookup as an admin.

Copied admin names

The alert goes off when someone who isn't an admin joins or writes with a name or username equal to an admin's, or very close to it. Lookup sees through the usual tricks:

  • capital letters and accents
  • letters from other alphabets that look Latin, such as Cyrillic or Greek
  • numbers and symbols used as letters, like 0 for o or 1 for l
  • spaces, dots, dashes, underscores and emoji
  • repeated letters, like aadmin

For names of at least 5 letters, one letter added, removed or changed also counts.

Lookup only alerts: it doesn't remove anyone. To remove people automatically, use Doublegram Security.

Name and username changes

The alert says how the name or username was before and how it is now. Lookup notices when the person writes in the group: Telegram doesn't tell bots about profile changes.

For this, Lookup keeps only the latest name and username of whoever writes in the group, and deletes them when the person leaves. It's not a history of past names.

Where the alert arrives

For each alert you choose where it goes:

  • In private: to the admins Lookup can write to, that is, those who have started the bot
  • In the group, admins only: an invisible message for each admin, up to 10
  • In the group, to everyone: a normal message in the group

The two choices in the group exclude each other. If no place is selected, the alert reaches no one, and the settings tell you.

Under each alert, the 🔍 Lookup button opens the card of the person. It doesn't count toward your personal searches.
