What New Members See When Joining a Telegram Group

New members in a Telegram group cannot post until they verify. @doublegram_captcha_bot mutes them on join, posts a welcome line with a Verify Captcha button, and opens the Mini App — or auto-approves trusted users who already passed Captcha elsewhere.

From a new member's perspective, joining a Telegram group protected by @doublegram_captcha_bot is a short gate before they can chat.

Standard join flow

  1. User joins the group (invite link, add, or approved join request).
  2. Immediate mute — they cannot send messages, media, polls, stickers, or link previews.
  3. Welcome message appears in the group, mentioning the user with a button:
    • Verify Captcha → opens the Telegram Mini App
  4. They tap the button and complete verification (see Complete reCAPTCHA Verification in Telegram).
  5. On success, the group message updates to confirm they can speak.

The verify button opens:

Trusted users (cross-group trust)

If Cross-Group Trust is enabled and the user already completed Captcha in another protected group (within your trust rules), they may skip mute and captcha. The bot posts a short auto-verified message instead.

Admins configure trust in /settings → Cross-Group Trust.

Who is skipped automatically?

  • Bots — not put through human captcha
  • Group admins and creator — not muted on join
  • Trusted returning users — per cross-group trust settings

If they do nothing

If the member never opens the Mini App, their token expires after the group's verification timeout (default 5 minutes, configurable 1–60). They are then kicked or banned and the group message updates.

Member tip: Verification must be done on the same Telegram account that joined the group.

Silent mode

If admins enabled Silent Mode in /settings, success and kick messages are auto-deleted after a delay. The pending verify button stays until the user verifies or times out.

Quick reference

  • On join: mute + Verify Captcha button
  • Trusted users: auto-approved message
  • Default timeout: 5 minutes
  • Skipped: bots, admins, trusted users
