Set the Verification Timeout in Telegram Groups

Control how long new members have to verify in your Telegram group. In /settings → Timeout use +/− to set 1–60 minutes — default 5. After that, @doublegram_captcha_bot removes users who did not complete reCAPTCHA.

The verification timeout is how long a muted new member in a Telegram group has to open the Mini App and pass reCAPTCHA. After it expires, @doublegram_captcha_bot removes them automatically.

Configure timeout

  1. In the group, send /settings (admin only).
  2. Tap ⏱ Timeout: X min.
  3. Use and to adjust minutes.
  4. Range: 1 to 60 minutes.

Default

5 minutes per group if you never changed it.

What happens at expiry

  1. Pending verification token is marked expired.
  2. Background kicker removes the user (kick or ban per server config).
  3. Group message updates to show the user did not complete verification.
  4. If Silent Mode is on, the kick message may be deleted after a delay.
  5. If Notifications are on, the group owner gets a private alert.

Balance: Short timeouts (1–3 min) stop raids fast but may frustrate real users on slow networks. 5–10 minutes is typical for public communities.

Timeout vs firewall

Timeout applies to users who passed geo checks and received a captcha. Firewall blocks happen before captcha — those users never get a timeout window.
